Anesthesia Department

We provide a comprehensive range of clinical services, including peri-operative anaesthesia services, neuro-anaesthesia and organ transplant anaesthesia. The Department of Anaesthesiology of the hospital has achieved excellence for general and regional anaesthesia. The foundation of this department is the clinical skill of our anaesthesiologists who have received training and accomplishments from the best institutes around the world. We have a dedicated team of senior anaesthetists who along with their associates & junior staff provide round the clock service. Types of anaesthesia provided depend on the patient’s medical status and type of procedure –

General Anaesthesia – Patient is not conscious

Regional anaesthesia – Local anaesthetic is injected by anaesthesiologist to provide numbness in certain part of body. This could be used for pain control during/after procedure.

MAC (Monitored Anaesthesia Care) – Monitoring care of vitals during a procedure, may involve sedation if necessary.

The anaesthesiologist will meet the patient prior to the surgery and discuss the medical history, lab results and anaesthesia plan to take informed consent of the procedure to be performed. In the O.T a member of the anaesthesia care will be with the patient throughout the procedure. After th procedure patient will be moved to the recovery room and a nurse will monitor the patient and provide medication to minimize pain, nausea and vomiting as needed. Then the patient will be transfered from Recovery room on advice by anaesthetist when he is stable and comfortable. Supported with Three Full time Anaesthesiologist the department is fully equipped with hi-tech anaesthesia trolleys and Multipara monitors with dual IBP and ETCO2. Anaesthesiologists are available round the clock for the OT need and patient requirements.

Emergency & Trauma Cetnre

Kasturba Hospital, Valsad is a pioneer of modern-day emergency care in entire Valsad district and operates one of the best Accident & Emergency Centre in South-Gujarat, providing services for trauma and non-trauma medical and surgical emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Emergency room is one of the most critical areas in the hospital. The quality of medical services provided in the emergency room is of paramount importance and often have a direct bearing on the morbidity and mortality of a patient. Emergency & Trauma Centre is equipped with 12 beds and a minor OT conveniently located in ground floor of the hospital with a separate entrance. The fully equipped centre is staffed with full-time experienced Emergency physicians, Emergency paramedics and nurses, who are specialized in all areas of Emergency Medicine. The Centre provides a range of state-of-the-art equipments and technology for emergency management and support, as well as emergency access to other sub-specialties and physicians.

Dialysis Department

At a stage there was no facility available nearby, for the treatment of Kidney Diseases. Considering the Ratio of renal failure patients, A State-of-the-art Dialysis Centre was required the most. We have started Dialysis unit in April-2000 at the cost of Rs.40 lakhs, which is centrally air conditioned and well equipped with 6 latest American Ultra Touch-1000 model Dialysis Machine which is today reached on 13 dialysis equipment with the investment of another Rs. 35 lacks, R.O. + DM Water Treatment Plant, Gas Analyzer and Electrolyte Analyzer, Monitors etc. This unit is the only of its kind in Bulsar (Valsad) district. Dialysis to the patient is done at Affordable rates of only Rs.500/- per dialysis against the cost of Rs.1100/- per Dialysis. At present about 1200+ Dialysis per month are being performed in this unit. The patients for Dialysis are increasing day by day and this is the only centre where HbsAg +ve and HCV+ve patients are being Dialyzed 2 such equipments allotted for performing the Dialysis to such Patients.

Subsidised :

• On an average 24 patients per day undergo this treatment at KVRM.
• KVRM provides subsidised dialysis at Rs. 400/- Only.

Medical Department

Kasturba Hospital, Valsad offers high quality care and treatment for various medical illnesses and infectious diseases. Pediatric Neonatal Department

The Paediatrics Department provides a variety of health-related services ranging from preventive services, anticipatory guidance, assessment of well-being, treatment of illnesses covering minor to the most complicated and life-threatening conditions for all age groups (foetus, new-born, infant, toddler, preschool, school-age, and adolescent). All these age groups have unique health requirements.

Social Medical Department

Family Planning Centre is working to promote Government Family Planning Activities. All types of Immunization and Vaccinations like: BCG, Oral Polio, Tetanus, Typhoid A & B, Vitamin-A, Cholera are provided free of cost. Tubectomy & vasectomy operation are done free of cost. Contraceptive pills & protective contraceptives are also issued free of cost daily.

Programmes for inoculation and Vaccination :

• Vaccination is given on Every Monday, Wednesday & Friday from 1000 to 1230 hrs.
• BCG Vaccination is given every Wednesday.
• Measles Vaccination is given every Monday.
• Family with two daughters which opts for family planning operation before the age of 35 years will get Rs 5,000/- (five thousand rupees only) and National saving certificate from the government.
• Family with One daughter which opts for family planning will get Rs 6,000/-.

Renal Stones

Renal stone or calculus or lithiasis is one of the most common diseases of the urinary tract. It occurs more frequently in men than in women.. It shows a familial predisposition. Urinary calculus is a stone-like body composed of urinary salts bound together by a colloid marix of organic materials. It consists of a nucleus around which concentric layers of urinary salts are deposited. When a stone causes no symptoms, watchful waiting is a valid option. For symptomatic stones, pain control is usually the first measure, using medications such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or opioids. More severe cases may require surgical intervention. For example, some stones can be shattered into smaller fragments using extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy. Some cases require more invasive forms of surgery.

Examples of these are cystoscopic procedures such as laser lithotripsy or percutaneous techniques such as percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Sometimes, a tube (ureteral stent) may be placed in the ureter to bypass the obstruction and alleviate the symptoms, as well as to prevent ureteral stricture after ureteroscopic stone removal.

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), benign enlargement of the prostate (BEP), adenofibromyomatous hyperplasia and incorrectly referred to benign prostatic hypertrophy, is an increase in size of the prostate. When sufficiently large, the nodules compress the urethral canal to cause partial, or sometimes virtually complete, obstruction of the urethra, which interferes with the normal flow of urine. It leads to symptoms of urinary hesitancy, frequent urination, dysuria (painful urination), increased risk of urinary tract infections, and urinary retention. Although prostate specific antigen levels may be elevated in these patients because of increased organ volume and inflammation due to urinary tract infections, BPH does not lead to cancer or increase the risk of cancer.
